Southgate Corporation began as the John J. O’Neill Building Company in 1953. The company name was changed to Southgate Development Company in 1963. In 1983, the name was changed again to Southgate Corporation.

When it was still known as the John J. O’Neill Building Company in the mid-1950s, the company was a franchisee of the successful National Homes corporation and developed prefabricated residential properties for WWII veterans. In addition to the National Homes properties, the company later built over 400 additional apartments.

The John J. O’Neill Building Company also developed the Southgate Shopping Center, the name of which was later changed to Southgate Shopping Plaza.

However, the company’s focus in the intervening years has been on providing commercial real estate development opportunities in and around Etna, Heath, Newark, Marysville, and other locations throughout central Ohio.

Southgate Corporation creates first-class industrial and commercial spaces. They have developed four industrial parks in central Ohio and projects in Columbus, Heath, Hebron, and Marysville, Ohio.

The names of the industrial parks developed by Southgate Corporation are Columbus Corporate Park, Etna Corporate Park, McMillen Business Center, and Newark Ohio Industrial Park.
